Saddam--Oil-for-Food--Al Qaeda?
If this turns into a story - that's the ballgame for Kerry.
From Fox News
"The original United Nations plan was to let Saddam sell oil solely to buy humanitarian goods such as food and medicine, with the U.N. Secretariat (search) collecting a 2.2 percent commission on Saddam's oil sales to supervise the integrity of this process. As the oil-for-food program actually worked, however, the United Nations let Saddam choose his own business partners. The world body also kept secret the details of those contracts and the identities of the contractors, and it let Saddam graft at least $4.4 billion out of the program through manipulated contract prices, by estimates of the U.S. General Accountability Office.
Saddam's standard scam was to underprice oil sales and overpay for relief supplies, thus generating fat profits for his business partners. Many of those contractors would kick back part of the take to Saddam's regime — or divert it to whatever uses Saddam might fancy. By various accounts, those uses ranged from building palaces to buying arms to supplying Saddam's sadistic son Uday with equipment for torturing Iraqi athletes.
One of the big questions is whether any of the money skimmed from oil-for-food also slopped into terrorist-financing ventures such as MIGA. It's important to note that in tracking terrorist financing, the simplest starting points are the visible links, the potential connections through which money might most easily have flowed.
Proving that funds actually coursed through those conduits is far more difficult."
The last line is critical - but if this develops into something tangible, something the public gets a hold on - then UN is in for some real heat.
In my fantasy world of actual accountability, the President would, without warning have the UN building siezed by a brigade of Marines overnight. Every single non-ally citizen in the building would be PNG'ed and deported in 24hrs with nothing but their shirts on their backs. All documentation, computers and in-house correspondence would be seized by the FBI and removed for a full, public investigation. Anything found regarding UN sponsorship, allowance or encouragement of terrorism vs. America or Israel or our allies would be immediately published on the internet.
UN officers would then be brought up on war crimes charges for aiding and abbetting anti-Semitism, genocide, terrorism and totalitarian dictatorships around the globe.
The U.S. would then begin a new alliance, of only democratic nations, dedicated to the forwarding of liberty and the ending of oppressive, autocratic governments anywhere in the world.

But that's me.
